Nationally-Ranked Bloomsburg Sweeps Match With Ship Women's Tennis

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team swept all nine matches against Shippensburg University on Saturday afternoon to earn a 9-0 victory. Bloomsburg (2-0) has made eight consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship.

The hottest contested contest of the day came at No. 5 singles where Lady Raider freshman Shana Ruff (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) battled Lauren Colfer before falling in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Melinda Meisel (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) fell at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2 to Iida Hokkanen.

At No. 2 singles, Shippensburg (1-2) sophomore Nicole Perugini (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) kept the first set close before losing 6-3, 6-0 against Emily Murphy.

In doubles competition, the team of Meisel and Perugini nearly pulled of the upset for Shippensburg, taking the Huskies' team of Hokkanen and Emily Pratt to an 8-4 decision. Ruff and junior Danielle Kennedy (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) as well as the team of junior Allison Bollinger (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) and freshman Karen Jensenius (York, Pa./Northeastern) were defeated 8-2.

The Lady Raiders return home for their first home match of the season on Tuesday, hosting West Chester University at Robb Sports Complex.
