Women's Tennis Picks Up First Victory at Lincoln, 8-0

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Following Saturday's season-opening loss at Philadelphia University on Saturday, the Shippensburg University women's tennis team earned its first victory of the season on Sunday, defeating Lincoln University, 8-0. The Lady Raiders swept all eight of the contested matches, including both doubles flights.

Freshman Karen Jensenius (York, Pa./Northeastern) picked up her second victory of the season for Shippensburg (1-1), shutting out Shawnelly Francis in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. On Saturday, Jensenius won her first collegiate match at No. 5 singles. Freshman Shana Ruff (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) also picked up her second win Sunday with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Carin Seals at No. 2 singles. Ruff won at No. 6 singles on Saturday.

Lincoln (0-2) has started the season with back-to-back losses.

In her first singles action of the year, junior Danielle Kennedy (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) won at No. 3 singles, winning 6-0, 6-2 against Tiffany Cooke while junior Allison Bollinger (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco), also making her first appearance this season, earned a victory at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2 versus Heather Beasley.

Meanwhile, sophomore Nicole Perugini (Reading, Pa./Holy Name), playing at No. 6 singles, defeated Renee Dixon, 8-0 and junior Amanda Fenn (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown) swept Kia Holmes at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, the team of Jensenius and junior Lina Pavilionyte (Vilnius, Lithuania/Vilnius Sv. Kristofer) picked up their second win, 8-0 over Francis and Seals. In the only other contested doubles match at No. 2, Perugini and sophomore Melinda Meisel (Jersey shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) defeated Holmes and Beasley, 8-0.

Shippensburg travels to nationally-ranked Bloomsburg University on Saturday.
