SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Senior
Lina Pavilionyte (Vilnius, Lithuania/Vilnius Sv. Kristofer) advanced to
the semifinals of the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Individual Tennis Championships on Saturday
for the fourth-straight year, posting a perfect 2-0 record.
In doubles, Pavilionyte teamed with junior Melinda Meisel (Jersey
Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) to advance to the quarterfinals with an 8-2 victory over
Christy Lilli and Caitlin Golden of Millersville.
The duo, teaming up for the first time this season, then lost to the No.
1-seeded team of Magaly Peter and Jharna Nansi in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-2).
Peter and Nansi posted a 10-0 record in the regular season.
Pavilionyte, seeded third in singles, will face the No. 1-seed in Inga Chilingaryan
from California (Pa.) on Sunday after posting two straight-set victories.
She received a bye in the first round before defeating Cori Rombach of Clarion,
6-0, 6-4. The two did not get to play in the regular season because of an
injury default by Rombach.
In the quarterfinals, Pavilionyte beat Chilingaryan's teammate, Katie
Anderson, 6-0, 6-4. Anderson played at No. 2 singles when California (Pa.)
and Shippensburg met on April 4. In that match, Chilingaryan edged Pavilionyte
6-1, 6-3.
Also in singles on Saturday, Meisel was defeated by Andriana Nunic of Indiana
(Pa.), 6-1, 6-2.
Competition continues on Sunday at Bloomsburg University.
