Shippensburg Caps Regular Season with 9-0 Win Over Wilson

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women's tennis team ended its regular season schedule in style, sweeping Wilson College 9-0 at the Robb Sports Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Shippensburg won all six singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores, and Wilson managed to take just one game in doubles action. The Lady Raiders improve their season mark to 6-7 with the victory. Since starting their spring schedule on March 18, the Lady Raiders are 5-3.

Wednesday's match was also the final home match for Shippensburg seniors Allison Bollinger (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco), Amanda Fenn (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown), Danielle Kennedy (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) and Lina Pavilionyte (Vilnius, Lithuania/Vilnius Sv. Kristofer).

At No. 1 doubles, Pavilionyte and junior Nicole Perugini (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) teamed up to win 8-0 over Rebecca Hassert and Sam May, earning their sixth win in their last eight matches.At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Karen Jensenius (York, Pa./Northeastern) and sophomore Melinda Meisel (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) topped Mary Miller and Nikki Smith, 8-0. Ship's No. 3 doubles team of sophomore Amy-Marie Ellis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) and Kathleen Detwiler (Penn Argyl, Pa./Penn Argyl) notched an 8-1 win, as well.

In singles action, Pavilionyte cruised passed Hassert, 6-0, 6-0. Meisel blanked May in straight sets, as well. At No. 3 singles, Perugini topped Miller in shutout fashion, and Jensenius did the same against Smith at No. 4 singles. Bollinger earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Gant at No. 5 singles, and freshman Kristen Herman (Worchster, Pa./Christopher Dock) won in straight sets at No. 6 singles.

With the team schedule wrapped up, the Lady Raiders will turn their attention to the Pennyslvania State Athletic Conference Singles and Doubles Championships on April 29-30.
