Women's Tennis Rolls Past Bowie State For Second Time This Season, 5-1

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women's tennis team won five of the six contested matches against Bowie State University on Saturday en route to an 8-1 victory at Robb Sports Complex. Just 14 days earlier, the Lady Raiders swept all nine matches against Lady Bulldogs on the road in a 9-0 victory on March 18.
Shippensburg (3-5), who is 2-1 this spring, won by default at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and No. 6 singles. The team of senior Lina Pavilionyte (Vilnius, Lithuania/Vilnius Sv. Kristofer) and junior Nicole Perugini (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) won their third-straight match at No. 1 doubles, improving their overall record to 6-2 with a victory over Jessica Bond and Danielle Davis, 8-0.
The other doubles victory for the Lady Raiders came from junior Melinda Meisel (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) and sophomore Karen Jensenius (York, Pa./Northeastern) at No. 2 as the team also won by an 8-0 marging against Annette Johnson and Alexeus Webber.
In singles, Meisel picked up her first victory of the year at No. 1, defeating Davis 6-1, 6-1 while Jensenius earned her first victory of the season at No. 2 with a sweep of Bond, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Kristen Herman (Worchster, Pa./Christopher Dock) won her third-straight singles match at No. 4, defeating Johnson, 6-1, 6-0.
The lone Bowie State (4-10) victory came from Webber at No. 3 singles where she edged senior Allison Bollinger (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco), 6-3, 6-1.
Shippensburg returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division play on Wednesday in its third consecutive home match when the team hosts California University (Pa.) at Robb Sports Complex beginning at 3:30 p.m.
