Women’s Soccer Team Honors Three Seniors in Final Home Game of Season
Oct. 24, 2007
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The
Shippensburg women’s soccer team recognized the contributions of
seniors
Sarah Tagye (Exton/Downingtown East), Mallory
Skipp (Exton/B.Reed Henderson) and Jamie
Goetze (Glenmore/Downington) in its final home game of the season
against California University (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon at David See
Field. The
visiting Vulcans earned a 1-0 victory after Michelle Ewig netted a goal in
the 83rd minute.
Shippensburg (7-12) recognized its three seniors in pre-game ceremonies at
midfield. Tagye, Skipp and Goetze participated in their final home game at
David See Field and were recognized as instrumental figures in the development
of the Lady Raider soccer program.
In addition to helping guide Shippensburg
to a PSAC tournament appearance in 2006, the trio combined for 225 career
appearances, missing just nine total games since the beginning of the 2004
season.
In Wednesday’s contest, Lady Raider junior Beth Long (Berwyn/Conestoga) made several key stops to keep Shippensburg in the game, making seven saves
and facing 21 total shots. Her best stop came on a point-blank save against
Ewig midway through the second half that kept the game scoreless.
California (4-14-1) out-shot the Lady Raiders by a 21-14 margin, including
a 9-3 advantage in the first half. Shippensburg recorded 10 corner kicks
in the game, but were unable to convert for a goal. Ewig’s sixth goal
of the season came at 82:09 off an assist from Amanda Heister to guide the
Vulcans to the victory.
Tagye, Skipp and Goetze will look to earn a victory in the final games of
their career when Shippensburg concludes its season on Friday. The Lady Raiders
will travel to Clarion to take on the Golden Eagles at 5 p.m.
