SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg women's soccer team combined solid defense with a potent offense to black Lock Haven 3-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover match-up on Saturday afternoon at David See Field.

By virtue of Bloomsburg’s loss to West Chester on Saturday afternoon, the Lady Raiders clinched a spot in the PSAC playoffs for the first time since 2002. The top three seeds from each division will make the PSAC Women's Soccer Championship. Shippensburg (9-6-2, 6-3-2 PSAC East) remains in second place in the PSAC East with 20 points, tied with Kutztown.

Before the contest, Lady Raider soccer saluted senior Jessica Gibson (Annville/Annville-Cleona), as she played her final regular season home game with this contest.

Freshman Gayle Kuntzmann (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) put the Lady Raiders on the board early by beating two defenders and landing a shot in the corner of the net for her tenth goal of the season. Kuntzmann’s 10 goals are the most by a Lady Raider since Nikki Keggereis scored 16 goals in 2002.

In the second half, the Lady Raiders broke open the contest in the 63rd minute when Kuntzmann sent a pass to sophomore Kristen McGoldrick (Boothwyn/Garnet Valley), who maneuvered past a Lady Eagle defender to put the ball in the center of the net to put

Shippensburg up 2-0 in the game. Shippensburg iced the game with only 96 seconds remaining, when freshman Rachael Jeffrey (Allison Park/Hampton) scored an unassisted goal, the third on the day for the Lady Raiders and fourth on the season for Jeffrey.

A total of 30 fouls were committed in the contest, 17 by the Lady Raiders. Lock Haven out-shot Shippensburg 20-8 for the day. However, sophomore goalkeeper Beth Long (Berwyn/Conestoga) tallied nine saves and came up with her sixth shutout of season.

The next game for Shippensburg will be on the road Tues., Oct. 17, at California (Pa.) at 1 p.m. They will close out the season at West Chester on Saturday, Oct. 21.
