Kuntzmann Scores Twice in Lady Raider Win at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Shippensburg women's soccer team received a pair of second half goals from freshman Gayle Kuntzmann (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) and sophomore Beth Long (Berwyn/Conestoga) tallied her fifth shutout of the season in a 2-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest at Millersville Saturday evening.

With the score tied at 0-0 in the 76th minute, Kuntzmann scored off a corner kick from freshman Lauren Estrain (Olney, Md./Sherwood) to give the Lady Raiders the advantage. Kuntzmann struck again eight minutes later, giving Ship the 2-0 lead and the eventual victory.

With the victory, the Lady Raiders improve to 8-5-1 overall and 6-3-1 in PSAC Eastern Division action. Couple the win with a Kutztown and Mansfield tie, and the Lady Raiders move into soul position of second place in the PSAC East. Millersville, meanwhile falls to 2-8-2 overall and 1-5-1 in the PSAC East on the season.

It was Kuntzmann's eighth and ninth goals of the season, which leads the team and is the highest single season total for a Lady Raider since Nikki Kegerries scored nine in 2003.

Long, while credited for the shuout, needed to make only on save. Millersville managed only two shots in the 90 minutes of action.

The Lady Raiders return to action at David See Field on Wed., Oct. 11 in a key conference match-up against Bloomsburg.
