Late Goal Pushes Philadelphia to 1-0 Win Over Lady Raiders
Oct. 5, 2006
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Shippensburg women's soccer team received seven saves from sophomore goalkeeper Beth Long (Berwyn/Conestoga) but managed just four shots on goal on the offensive end as Philadelphia handed the Lady Raiders' their second-straight non-conference defeat by a 1-0 score Thursday afternoon.
The game's only goal came at 74:58, when Philadelphia's Kelly Davis found Christy Bauckman for her second goal of the season. Philadelphia goalkeeper Sara Hall turned away all four of Shippensburg's shots on goal to secure the shutout victory and help boost Philadelphia's season mark to 8-3-1 on the season.
With the loss, Shippensburg falls to 7-6-1 overall. However, the Lady Raiders' Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division mark of 5-3-1 and second-place stadning remained unaffected by the non-conference loss.
Philadelphia outshot the Lady Raiders 14-9 in the game and 11-7 in the second half. Only three Lady Raiders took shots on goal. Freshman Brittany Oncay (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) led the team with three total shots and two on goal.
Despite the loss, it was the seventh time in 12 starts that Long has allowed one goal or less. It also just the fourth game this season in which the Lady Raiders have failed to score a goal.
Shippensburg returns to PSAC Eastern Division action on Sat., Oct. 7 at Millersville. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
