MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Shippensburg women’s soccer team suffered its fourth consecutive loss to a PSAC opponent and its third consecutive game against an opponent from the PSAC Eastern Division on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 2-1 decision to Millersville at Chryst Field.

It is the first victory of the season for Millersville (1-7-2, 1-5-2 PSAC East), who had only scored one goal its nine previous games this season. The Lady Raiders defeated Millersville 1-0 in the season opener on August 25.

Shippensburg (6-5, 4-3 PSAC East) opened the scoring late in the first half, as freshman Alison Dowdrick (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) connected for her second goal of the season off an assist from fellow freshman Amanda Greenawalt (Landisville/Hempfield) off a cross.

Millersville responded just before halftime in the 43rd minute, as Morgan Umble scored off an assist from Alison Silva on a corner kick.

Junior Beth Long (Berwyn/Conestoga) was peppered with shots by the Marauders, as the goaltender made seven saves in the game, including five in the first half.

Stephanie Mellott scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 62nd minute off an assist from Olivia Taylor. Millersville’s Karrine Riggins made four saves to preserve the first victory of the season for the Marauders.

Shippensburg returns to action on Monday afternoon, when the team hosts Kutztown at David See Field. Game time is 3:30 PM.
