Greenawalt Scores Twice in 4-1 Victory Against Shepherd

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Freshman Amanda Greenawalt (Landisville/Hempfield) scored a career-high four points on two goals as the Shippensburg University women's soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak with a convincing 4-1 victory over Shepherd Thursday afternoon at David See Field.

The Lady Raiders (6-3), who lost back-to-back road games at Bloomsburg and Kutztown last week after climbing to No. 13 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas National Rankings, matched their season-high with four goals, three of which came in the second half.

Shippensburg also scored four goals in a 4-2 victory at Charleston (WV) on September 2.

Sophomore Rachael Jeffrey (Allison Park/Hampton) and freshman Alison Dowdrick (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) each added one goal and one assist for the Lady Raiders who are improved their record to 4-0 at home this season.

Greenawalt scored her third goal of the season on a breakway in the 36th minute off an assist from freshman Hannah Sanders (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) who recorded her first career point on the through ball. Greenawalt's goal was the only offense for either team in the first half as Shippensburg held an 8-2 advantage in shots and a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The offensive tempo increased in the second half as the two teams combined to score four goals, three of which came from the Lady Raiders. Jeffrey got things started in the 53rd minute when she scored her third goal of the season, assisted by senior Jamie Goetze (Glenmoore/Downingtown) to give Shippensburg a two-goal lead.

However, Shepherd (3-6) would get on the board just over three minutes later after Kellie Wagner netted her first goal of the season, unassisted at 55:22 to pull the Rams within one.

The Lady Raiders would hold its one-goal lead until the final 10 minutes when they added two insurance goals en route to its second non-conference victory of the season. Dowdrick scored her first career goal at 80:38 off a pass from Jeffrey who picked up her team-leading third assist of the season.

Dowdrick then assisted on Greenawalt's team-leading fourth goal of the season at 87:33 to cap the scoring. Six different Lady Raiders have scored at least one goal in nine games this season, led by four from Greenawalt and sophomore Gayle Kunztmann (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) and three each by Jeffrey and freshman Lisa Findley (Camp Hill/Cumberland Valley).

Sophomore Jennifer Bledsoe (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek) made her first career start in goal for Shippensburg and tied her career-high with two saves while playing all 90 minutes. Amy Bell stopped four shots for Shepherd who was outshot, 17-4.

Greenawalt, Dowdrick and freshman Katelyn O'Brien (Sinking Spring/Wilson) all made their first career starts on Thursday while sophomore Emily Burger (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg) earned her second. Freshman Lauren Delvecchio (Dillsburg/Northern) also saw her first action of the season.

Shippensburg returns to action on Saturday when its welcomes Edinboro to David See Field for a PSAC crossover game beginning at 11:00 AM.
