Bridgeport Rallies to Top Lady Raiders 2-1 in Non-Conference Contest
Sept. 16, 2006
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The
Bridgeport women's soccer team received two goals in a two minute
span late in the second half to edge Shippensburg 2-1 in a physical non-conference
match-up
at David See Field on Saturday.
Trailing 1-0 in the 70th minute, Bridgeport's Catherine Cusson hooked
up with Jami Elliot to tie the game at 1-1. Then, at 71:22, Therese Petersson
beat Shippensburg freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Cetkowski (Ephrata/Ephrata) to give the Purple Knight's their first lead of the game and the eventual
victory.
Cetkowski, receiving her first career action, was thrust into the starting
lineup when regular goalkeeper Beth Long (Berwyn/Conestoga) was injured late
in pre-game warm-ups. Cetkowski made five saves, including three in the first
half, but the Purple Knights put plenty of pressure on Cetkowski, out-shooting
the Lady Raiders 19-13.
Shippensburg's lone goal came in the 51st minute when sophomore Kristen
McGoldrick (Boothwyn/Garnet Valley) scored her third goal of the season on
a pass from freshman Sarah Youse (Kutztown/Kutztown).
Amanda Roche tallied six saves for Bridgeport.
The Lady Raiders, who entered the game in first place in the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division, drop to 4-2-1 overall
but remain 3-1-1 in conference play. Shippensburg, while unbeaten on the
road, is 1-2-1 at David See Field this season.
The Lady Raiders returns to PSAC East play on Thursday, Sept. 21 when they
take on West Chester at 7 p.m. at David See Field.
