Five Lady Raiders Named to IWLCA Academic Honor Roll
Nov. 29, 2006
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) recently honored Shippensburg for having achieved high academic standing with its designation as an IWLCA Honor Squad. In addition, five women's lacrosse student-athletes were selected to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.
The Lady Raider lacrosse team was selected as an Honor Squad after achieving a team grade point average above a 3.0. Shippensburg was one of six teams from Division II who received the distinction, including C.W. Post, Gannon, Mercyhurst, New Haven and West Chester.
Meanwhile, Shippensburg student-athletes Kaitlin Keene (Biology), Sarah Beecher (Elementary Education), Joanna Cole (Elementary Education), Rebekah Hoffman (Social Work) and Kim Hudicka (Biology) were selected honored among 38 student-athletes in Division II with inclusion on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.
Shippensburg's five selections were the third-most among all Division II schools.
To receive this honor, an individual must be a member of a collegiate varsity program and have achieved a high level of success in the classroom. After totaling just one win in 2005, Shippensburg posted a seven-game improvement last season as the Lady Raiders posted a record of 8-8 and advanced to their second PSAC championship in the last three seasons.
The team will take the field in 2007 under first-year head coach Naomi Radio, who was an assistant with the Lady Raiders in 2006 under Bertie Landes.
