Box Score

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Anna Marmer, Joanna Caminiti and Liz Richmond combined to score eight of Millersville's 11 goals as the Marauders earned a spot in next week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Lacrosse Championship with an 11-7 victory over Shippensburg on Thursday.

Millersville (7-9, 6-5 PSAC) claimed the third berth into the conference championships after Lock Haven and West Chester had already secured the top two seeds last week.

Meanwhile, Shippensburg (6-7, 4-6 PSAC), who played the majority of the game without its leading scorer in senior Kim Hudicka (Media, Pa./Penncrest) after receiving her second yellow card, must battle Bloomsburg for the fourth and final berth in next week's championship. The Huskies finished conference play on Thursday with a 17-3 victory at East Stroudsburg, giving them a 6-6 record in the PSAC.

With victories at East Stroudsburg on Friday and at home on Senior Day versus Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday, the Lady Raiders can also finish conference play with a 6-6 record in the PSAC, thus tying them with Bloomsburg. However, because Shippensburg beat the Huskies twice this season, the Lady Raiders would earn the fourth and final playoff berth, their second in the last three seasons.

As for Thursday, senior Cristin Marron (Exton, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and junior Kristin Crutchfield (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) combined to score five of Shippensburg's seven goals as Marron scored at least three goals for the eighth time in 13 games this season. She now has 104 career goals, moving her into eighth on the school's all-time list, five behind Kelly Ann Sims who scored 109 from 1996-99.

Hudicka, who entered the game with 35 goals and 46 points, both team highs, was forced to leave the game with 9:56 remaining in the first half after picking up her second yellow card. As a team, Shippensburg committed 35 fouls, including 17 in the first half as the team fell behind 6-3 at halftime.

Both teams alternated goals to start the game, leading to a 3-3 tie with 11:24 left in the first half after Marron scored her second goal off an assist from freshman Beth Long (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga). However, the Marauders scored three-straight goals in the final 9:27, one each from Richmond, Caminiti and Amy Longenecker to take a three-goal lead at the half.

Caminiti netted her second goal of the game with 22:06 to play in the second half to push the Marauder lead to four, 7-3 before back-to-back goals from Crutchfield and sophomore Allie Rutland (Middletown, Md./Middletown) cut the lead to two.

Both teams would exchange goals over the next seven minutes as the Marauders maintained its two goal lead, 8-6, following Marron's third goal with 11:50 left. Millersville scored three of the game's last four goals in the final 8:59 to secure it first PSAC championship appearance since 2001.

Long added one goal and two assists for Shippensburg while freshman Hannah Sperber (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) had one goal and one assist. In goal, senior Michelle Mangle (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) made nine saves while her counterpart, Patty Wesolek was only required to make five as the Marauders had twice as many shots, 28-14, than the Lady Raiders.

Shippensburg travels to East Stroudsburg on Friday before returning home to face Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday at Robb Sports Complex for Senior Day. The Lady Raiders defeated the Warriors 12-4 back on April 2 before beating IUP 14-8 on April 10.
