Box Score

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Shippensburg University sophomore Hannah Sperber (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) scored a pair of second half goals, but the Lady Raider lacrosse team fell short against the nation's No.2-ranked team West Chester by a final of 20-2 at Robb Sports Complex Wednesday afternoon.

Shippensburg (6-7, 5-5 PSAC) ranked third in the conference in scoring, but was limited to its lowest single-game scoring total of the season. While Sperber scored her 19th and 20th goals of the season, the Lady Raider offense was hampered by the absence of leading scorer junior Kristin Crutchfield (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), who exited the game after suffering an injury early and did not return. Crutchfield entered the game with a team-leading 45 goals to her credit.

West Chester (12-1, 10-0 PSAC), meanwhile, racked up 22 goals and fired 43 shots, including 29 in the first half, at Ship's freshman goalkeeper Lauren Marron (Macungie/Emmaus). Marron managed 13 saves.

West Chester started the scoring two minutes into the contest with a goal from Stephanie Kienle. Kienle, who finished with three goals on the day, struck again at the four-minute mark. The Golden Rams pushed the lead to 14-0 at the half and scored the first three goals of the second before Sperber put Shippensburg on the board.

Chrissy Kane, Mandy Masoner and Alyse Kullman also finished the game with three goals.

Despite the loss, the Lady Raiders held on to the fourth and final PSAC playoff spot. They entered the day with a one game lead on Indiana (Pa.) and Millersville, but Indiana fell Bloomsburg and Lock Haven defeated Millersville.

Shippensburg takes on its second-straight nationally ranked opponent on Saturday, when No. 4-ranked Lock Haven visits the Robb Sports Complex. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
