No. 6 West Chester Ends Lady Raiders' Three-Game Win Streak, 22-10
Apr. 15, 2006
WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Despite four goals from senior Kim Hudicka (Media, Pa./Penncrest) and 10 saves from senior Michelle Mangle (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic), the No. 6-ranked West Chester women's lacrosse team ended Shippensburg's three-game win streak with a 22-10 victory at home on Saturday.
Stephanie Keinle totaled seven goals for the Golden Rams (10-2, 7-1 PSAC) who maintained its tie for first-place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) standings with fourth-ranked Lock Haven. Meanwhile, with six points, Katelyn Martin broke the school's career record and now has 313.
Hudicka's 27th goal of the season at 1:57 gave Shippensburg (5-5, 3-4 PSAC) a 1-0 lead, but behind four goals from Keinle and and two by Martin, West Chester tallied seven unanswered goals to build a 7-1 lead.
From that point, the Lady Raiders would not get any closer than five goals when junior Kristen Crutchfield (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) netted her 29th goal of the season unassisted, making the score 9-4.
Both teams would each score two more goals before the half as West Chester took an 11-6 lead at the break.
The Golden Rams would score the first six goals of the second half, including three from Christine Kane, two from Martin and one by Keinle, to build an insurmountable 17-6 lead with just over 24 minutes remaining in the game. Just like the first half, West Chester scored 11 goals in the second while limiting Shippensburg to just four.
Shippensburg was outshot 32-14 in suffering its fourth loss of the season to a team that is currently ranked in the top-10 of the STX/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Coaches' Poll. It was also the first road loss for the Lady Raiders this season.
With her four goals, Hudicka moved into a tie for the team-lead in goals with Crutchfield at 30 while senior Cristin Marron (Exton, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) totaled one goal to raise her season total to 25.
Shippensburg continues its three-game road trip on Wednesday when the team travels to No. 4-ranked Lock Haven.
