Lacrosse Extends Win Streak to Three in Romp of Wilmington

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -
Senior Cristin Marron (Exton, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) totaled a career-high
six points and four assists as the Shippensburg women's lacrosse team extended
its win streak to three in a convincing 14-3 victory over Wilmington (Delaware)
on Thursday at Robb Sports Complex.
The Lady Raiders (5-4) have won five out of their last six games and their three-game
winning streak is the longest since the team won three-straight from April 17-21,
2004. During the team's three-game win streak, it has outscored its opponents
43-24 while moving into third-place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
(PSAC) standings.
Shippensburg dominated the game statistically, outshooting the Wildcats 32-12
while holding a 23-17 edge in ground balls and a 13-6 advantage in draw controls.
In the second half, the Lady Raiders held Wilmington scoreless, outscoring them
7-0 to break open a 7-3 halftime lead. Leading 3-2 with 12:50 left in the first
half, Shippensburg scored 11 of the game's final 12 goals to cruise to its fifth
victory of the season with six regular-season games remaining. Three of the team's
four losses this season have come against teams currently ranked in the top-10
in Division II.
After the Lady Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a goal by sophomore Kelly
Smith (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) and back-to-back scores from junior Kristen
Crutchfield (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), the Wildcats cut the lead to one on goals
from Christina Knight and Colby Bugda.
However, Wilmington (6-3) would not score again until Bugda netted her second
with 1:03 remaining to pull her team within four at halftime.
In the second half, sophomore Brita Paul (Salisbury, Md./James Bennett) and senior
Lauren Wells (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) each netted their 10th goals of the
season while sophomore Katie Irwin (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and senior Joanna
Cole (New Freedom, Pa./York Catholic) both added their second.
Shippensburg's three leading scorers, senior Kim Hudicka (Media, Pa./Penncrest),
Crutchfield and Marron, combined to score nine of the team's 14 goals on Thursday
and all five of the team's assists for a total of 14 points. In addition to her
four assists, Marron added two goals while Crutchfield had four goals and one
assist and Hudicka totaled three goals and one assist. On the season, the three
have combined for 78 goals and 100 points.
In goal for the Lady Raiders, senior Michelle Mangle (Philadelphia,
Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) made six saves while allowing a season-low three goals.
Shippensburg returns to action on Saturday when the team travels to No. 6-ranked
West Chester. Game time is at 1:00 p.m.
