No. 5 Lock Haven Runs Away From Women's Lacrosse, 23-8

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -
Led by nine points from Jenna Richter, the fifth-ranked Lock Haven women's lacrosse
team handed Shippensburg its third-straight loss and fourth in five games
this season with a 23-8 victory on Saturday afternoon at Charlotte Smith
Field.
Richter was one of three Lady Eagles (5-1, 3-1 PSAC) to score at least eight
points in the game as she finished with eight goals and one assist. Mandy Alderfer
added four goals and four assists while Jessica Blickenstaff had three goals
and a game-high five assists.
Shippensburg (1-4, 1-3 PSAC) was led by its two leading scorers in juniors Kristin
Crutchfield (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) and Kelly Smith (Crownsville,
Md./Old Mill).
Both ended the game with five points as Crutchfield had three goals and two assists
while Smith scored a career-high five goals, surpassing her previous high of
four set earlier this season against Indiana (Pa.) and Slippery Rock.
The Lady Raiders scored three of the game's first four goals, inclduing two by
Smith, and held a 3-1 lead with 23:29 left in the first half.
Richter followed with her second goal of the game just 24 seconds later to pull
Lock Haven within one before Crutchfield netted her second at 21:43, extending
the lead back to two.
The Lady Eagles would then score back-to-back goals, the last coming at 19:54
by Alderfer, to tie the game at 4-4 before Crutchfield scored just 10 seconds
later to put Shippensburg back in front, 5-4.
From that point, it was all Lock Haven as the Lady Eagles scored 19 of the game's
final 22 goals, including 12 of the last 15 in the first half to take a 16-7
lead.
When Lock Haven managed to score, it do so with a frantic pace as 10 of the Lady
Eagles' final 19 goals came in a combined total of only 1:20. The team scored
five sets of back-to-back goals in less than 22 seconds each, beginning with
Richter and Alderfer's goals just 11 seconds apart in the first half at 19:15
and 19:04.
Richter and Rentel would also net goals 11 seconds apart at 16:25 and 16:14 in
the opening half.
Shippensburg was outscored 7-1 in the second half with Smith netting the team's
lone goal on a free position with 10:33 left. Smith scored the Lady Raiders'
final three goals during Lock Haven's 19-3 run over the final 49:15.
In goal, freshman Lauren Marron (Macungie/Emmaus), who was ranked 10th in Division
II in saves percentage and 11th in goals-against average in the most recent NCAA
statistical rankings of March 25, was credited with six saves.
Shippensburg will look to end its three-game losing streak on Monday when its
hosts Seton Hill at Robb Sports Complex in just the team's second game at home
in six contests this season beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Lady Raiders defeated
Slippery Rock 24-3 in their home opener back on March 24.
