Shippensburg Lacrosse Falls Just Short Of Upset Versus No. 4 Lock Haven

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Despite four goals each from senior Cristin Marron (Exton, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and senior Kim Hudicka (Media, Pa./Penncrest), the Lady Raiders Lacrosse team fell to the fourth-ranked Lock Haven University Lady Eagles, 15-13, on Friday afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (0-3, 0-2 PSAC) fell behind within the first six minutes on an unassisted goal by Amber Hoch. Shippensburg opened its scoring on an unassisted goal from junior Kristen Crutchfield (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) with 23:45 remaining in the first half.

Goals from senior Lauren Wells (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) and Marron tied the contest at 3-3. After a Lock Haven tally, the Lady Raiders scored three more times, including a free position goal from Marron, to take a 6-4 lead.

Lock Haven (6-0, 3-0 PSAC) responded with three goals of its own before Hudicka tied the score at 7-7 on an unassisted goal with 1:59 remaining. The score would remain this way at the half.

The Lady Raiders began the second half by re-taking the lead just 53 seconds in on Hudicka’s second goal, with an assist from sophomore Kelly Smith (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill). Smith provided an assist on a Marron goal before Hudicka added her third goal of the day following a Lock Haven goal to make the score 10-8.

The Lady Eagles, however, would score six unanswered goals in an eleven-minute stretch, including two by Jessica Blickenstaff, who finished with six goals and one assist. Shippensburg answered with a goal from Marron and from sophomore Brita Paul (Salisbury, Md./James Bennett) to pull within 14-12.

Both teams traded goals once more, but Lock Haven controlled the ball for the final two minutes to put the game away 15-13.

Hudicka added two assists to her four goals, and Paul finished with two goals and an assist. Freshman Beth Long (Berwyn/Conestoga) led Shippensburg with five draw controls, and junior goalkeeper Michelle Mangle (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) added nine saves on the afternoon.

The Lady Raiders return to action Sunday afternoon against East Stroudsburg in the team's fourth consecutive home game. Game time is at noon.
