Softball Honored As Regional Coaching Staff of the Year

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Shippensburg University softball head coach Bob Brookens, along with assistant coach Ben DeShong, were recently honored as the 2004 Speedline/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Mid-Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year.  The award was presented at the NFCA Convention held last week in Las Vegas, Nevada.
 
Brookens led the Lady Raiders to one of the best seasons in school history in 2004 as the team finished with a 48-6 record and a second consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship.  Shippensburg was also the only school in last yearπs NCAA championship to win back-to-back regional championships and advance to the national championship bracket, where it finished third.
 
Angelo State University, who handed the Lady Raiders their only losses in the postseason en route to the national championship, was named the Speedline/NFCA Division II National Coaching Staff of the Year.
