Shippensburg Softball to Host Fastpitch Instructional Clinics

Oct. 26, 2006

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University softball team, winners of three of the last four PSAC championships, will be hosting a series of fastpitch instructional clinics beginning Sunday, October 29.

The sessions will run for six weeks and each session will begin at 11:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. This high impact clinic is designed to improve individual performance regardless of current skill level. The objective will be reached by intense one-on-one instruction.

For registration and more information, please contact Shippensburg head coach Bob Brookens at 717-477-1328 or at rgbroo@ship.edu.

The Lady Raiders have won over 79-percent of their games over the last four seasons, totaling a 169-45 overall record. The team has also won two NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region championships in the past four years.

Shippensburg ranked No. 3 in the first National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 poll this last season and finished the year with 42 wins and a runner-up finish to national champion Lock Haven in the PSAC championship.

In six seasons at Shippensburg, Brookens has a record of 231-85 while leading the Lady Raiders to a No. 3 final national ranking in 2004, a No. 5 final ranking in 2003 and a No. 18 final ranking in 2006. Under his leadership, the team has had 26 All-PSAC Eastern Division selections, 20 NFCA Scholar-Athletes and 11 NFCA All-Americans.

In 2006, now-senior Heather Chantiles (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) named PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Year and Kelley Tiesi '06 was named PSAC Eastern Division Pitcher of the Year.
