Lady Raider Softball Announces Two Fall Scrimmages

Aug. 22, 2007

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg head softball coach Bob Brookens announced on Wednesday that the Lady Raiders will be hosting two scrimmages this fall at Robb Field against Division III Gettysburg and Dickinson.

On Sunday, September 30, Shippensburg will host Gettysburg in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM before hosting a doubleheader with Dickinson the following weekend on Saturday, October 6 at 11:00 AM.

Gettysburg went 25-15 a year ago en route to winning its third Centennial Conference championship and advancing to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship for the second year in school history and first since 1999 as the fifth-seed in the Montclair Regional. The Bullets return 15 players from last year's team, including junior Erin Ober and senior Abbe Miller who were named to the All-Centennial Conference first and second team, respectively, a year ago.

Meanwhile, Dickinson, who was 17-14 overall last season and advanced to the Centennial Conference Softball Championship, return all but one player, including senior Kaitlyn McDonald who was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Third Team as part of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) awards program.

Shippensburg finished the 2007 season with a 30-24 overall record, its sixth consecutive 30-win season while also making its sixth-straight NCAA regional championship appearance.

The Lady Raiders return three All-PSAC Eastern Division selections from a year ago in senior Dani Shields (Laurel, Del./Sussex Tech), junior Rachelle Wedell (Baltimore, Md./Northeast) and sophomore Nicole Henninger (Reading/Muhlenberg).
