Three Named to Academic All-America Softball Team

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University softball team had three players named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® College Division softball team, it was announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Shippensburg was the only team to have three players selected to one of the three teams. Only two other teams had multiple selections.
Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
To be eligible, a student-athletes must
be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point
average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00,
have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current
institution
and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the
program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors
on
more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA
covering all NCAA championship sports.

Senior outfielder Jaime Dacey (Langhorne, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was named to the first team with a 3.72 grade point average. She is majoring in elementary education. Dacey led the country in 2005 in overall batting average, hitting .549. Dacey was also ranked nationally in RBIs per game (9th - 1.23/gm), triples per game (3rd, - 0.23/gm) and slugging percentage (10th - .852). She broke single season Shippensburg records for triples (11), hits (78), RBIs (58), batting average and slugging percentage. Dacey also holds the Shippensburg career record for batting average (.420). She was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Player of the Year this past season, and is a two-time National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American. She is a two-time Academic All-District II selection.
Senior outfielder Liz Corr (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West), a third team selection. She is majoring in mathematics and has a 3.63 grade point average. She is one of the most prolific hitters in Shippensburg history, with a career batting average of .398, second in the record books behind Dacey. Corr holds Shippensburg career records for hits (279), runs (164), and at-bats (701). She has led the team in hitting three of the past four years, and had 70 or more hits three years of her career. This past season, she ranked 21st in the country with a .452 batting average. Corr is a two-time NFCA All-American, and was named PSAC East Player of the Year in 2003. She is a three-time Academic All-District II selection.
Senior first base Anna Corr (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) was also a third team selection. She is majoring in psychology with a 3.67 grade point average. With eight triples this season, Corr was ranked seventh in the country with 0.17 triples per game. She had a .338 batting average, with 47 hits, 22 extra base hits, 42 RBIs and a .612 slugging percentage. Corr was second on the team with 44 runs scored. In addition, she did not make an error in the infield this season. Corr was named first team All-PSAC East and NFCA All-Region this past season. In addition, she was PSAC East Player of the Week on April 18. She is a two-time NFCA Scholar Athlete.
Shippensburg ended its season with a 42-5 record (20-2 PSAC East) and won its third consecutive PSAC Championship. The team led the country in overall batting average at .371. In addition, the Lady Raiders were fourth in the country in winning percentage (.894), eighth in earned run average (1.08) and ninth in scoring (7.09).
