Four Softball Players Named to NFCA All-America Softball Team

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University softball team had four players named to the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America teams, it was announced last night in conjunction with the beginning of the NCAA Division II Softball National Championships in Salem, Va.

Shippensburg was one of only two teams to have four players chosen as All-Americans. St. Mary’s (Texas) was the other.

Senior outfielder Jaime Dacey (Langhorne, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was named to the first team. She led the country in 2005 in overall batting average, hitting .549. Dacey was also ranked nationally in RBIs per game (9th - 1.23/gm), triples per game (3rd, 0.23/gm) and slugging percentage (10th, .852). She broke single season Shippensburg records for triples (11), hits (78), RBIs (58), batting average and slugging percentage. Dacey also holds the Shippensburg career record for batting average (.420). She was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Player of the Year this past season, and is a two-time Academic All-District II first team selection. Dacey was a third team All-American selection last year.

Junior pitcher Kelley Tiesi (Baltimore, Md./Catholic School of Baltimore) was a second team selection. Last year’s national softball Player of the Year, she ranks fourth in the country in earned run average (0.60). With 180 strikeouts, she led the PSAC and ranks tenth in the nation with 9.0 strikeouts per game. She had a record of 23-1 this season. For her career, she is 74-9, and has a school record 726 strikeouts. It is her third All-America selection of her career. Tiesi was a first team honoree last year, and was named to the third team as a freshman.

Senior catcher Sarah Costa (Laurel, Md./Atholton) was named as an All-American for the first time in her career. She was a second team selection. This season, she batted .453, leading the team in doubles (13) and home runs (6). Costa holds the school record for doubles in a season (19 in 2004) and a career (57). She is in the top five in several school record categories, including career RBIs (2nd, 151), home runs (2nd, 17) and single season slugging percentage (4th, .777).

Senior outfielder Liz Corr (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West), a second team selection, is also one of the most prolific hitters in Shippensburg history, with a career batting average of .398, second in the record books behind Dacey. Corr holds Shippensburg career records for hits (279), runs (164), and at-bats (701). She has led the team in hitting three of the past four years, and had 70 or more hits three years of her career. This past season, she ranked 21st in the country with a .452 batting average. Corr is a three-time Academic All-District II selection, and was named PSAC Player of the Year in 2003. It is her second All-America selection. She was named to the third team in 2003.

Shippensburg ended its season with a 42-5 record (20-2 PSAC East) and won its third consecutive PSAC Championship. The team led the country in overall batting average at .371. In addition, the Lady Raiders were fourth in the country in winning percentage (.894), eighth in earned run average (1.08) and ninth in scoring (7.09).
