Three Lady Raiders Named All-PSAC Eastern Division, Two All-Region

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Rachelle
Wedell (Baltimore, Md./Northeast) highlighted three players from the Shippensburg
softball team who received post-season honors on Wednesday as the All-PSAC
and NFCA Mid-Atlantic Region teams were announced during the 2007 NCAA Division
II Mid-Atlantic Region Championship.
Wedell received her first two career post-season honors, earning All-PSAC
Eastern Division First Team and NFCA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team honors.
Joining her in receiving both all-conference and all-region honors was freshman
Nicole Henninger (Reading/Muhlenberg) who was selected to the Second Team
by both.
Meanwhile, junior Dani Shields (Laurel, Del./Sussex Tech) was also selected
All-PSAC Eastern Division Second Team.
In 50 games this season, Wedell is batting .303, the third-highest total
by a catcher in the PSAC, while totaling 46 hits, the second-highest total
on the team. She also has eight doubles and has driven in 19 runs. Wedell
is also second on the team with 13 multiple-hit games and currently has a
team-high four-game hit streak.
Wedell has started all 50 games, including 32 as the team's catcher,
10 as the designated player, five at third base and three at second base.
Henninger is having one of the top offensive seasons in school history while
starting all 52 of the team's games. She currently leads the team in
average, hits, home runs and RBIs. Henninger is hitting .392 with 62 hits,
11 doubles and 12 home runs which is a new Shippensburg single-season record.
She also has 47 RBIs.
Henninger has started 38 games at third base and 14
at shortstop and is hitting .434 with runners in scoring position while
totaling 21 RBIs with two outs.
Shields leads the team in ERA, wins, saves, innings pitched and strikeouts.
She is 15-7 in 29 appearances and 153.1 innings with a 2.28 ERA.
Shields is also ranked third in the conference in strikeouts with 203.
Opponents are batting a mere .209 against her and she also has a conference-leading
three saves. Shields was also selected All-PSAC Eastern Division Second
Team as a freshman in 2005.
Shippensburg will play Bowie State of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association (CIAA) in the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region Championship
Friday at 9:00 a.m. The game can be heard live on student radio station
