Tiesi and Chantiles Sweep PSAC Eastern Division Postseason Awards

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Shippensburg softball senior Kelley Tiesi (Baltimore, Md./Catholic School of Baltimore) and junior Heather Chantiles (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) were named as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Pitcher and Player of the Year, respectively, it was announced on Wednesday.

As a result of their selections, both Tiesi and Chantiles were named All-PSAC Eastern Division First Team. It marks the fourth consecutive First Team honor for Tiesi and the first-ever postseason honor for Chantiles.

Tiesi has established a 23-8 record so far this season. She carries a 0.69 ERA, ranking second in the PSAC and seventh in Division II. Tiesi leads the league with 11.0 strikeouts per seven innings, ranking her third in the nation, while opponents are hitting just .152 against her in 213.2 innings pitched.

Tiesi has 334 strikeouts this season, the second time in her career she has surpassed 300, and 1,060 for her career, ranking her sixth all-time in career strikeouts in Division II. She also has 97 career victories, trying to become just the sixth player in Division II history to total 100 wins and 1,000 strikeouts.

Chantiles currently leads the conference and ranks 10th in Division II, carrying a .493 batting average. Her on-base percentage of .507 also is the best in the PSAC. She ranks first in the conference in hits (105) and second in runs scored (49).

With 105 hits on the season, Chantiles is ranked seventh on the all-time Division II list. Furthermore, she ranks first on her team in slugging percentage (.516), total bases (110) and stolen bases (16). This marks the first All-PSAC honor for Chantiles.

Shippensburg (40-18) will be hosting the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region Championship at Robb Field this week for the fourth consecutive year, opening play against regional and PSAC Eastern Division rival Millersville at Noon on Thursday.

The tournament begins on Thursday at 10:00 a.m., with Kutztown playing East Stroudsburg, followed by Shippensburg and Millersville, Bloomsburg and California (Pa.) at 2:00 p.m., and Lock Haven versus N.C. Central at 4:00 p.m.

The championship continues with four games at the same times on both Friday and Saturday, before concluding with two games at 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m., on Sunday and, if necessary, a final game on Monday at 11:00 a.m.
