Box Score

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Senior Kristen Marll (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) hit the game-tying run and scored the game-winning run as No. 21 Shippensburg came-from-behind to eliminate No. 15 Bloomsburg from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Softball Championship on Friday afternoon at Lawrence Field.

The Lady Raiders (38-17) will play California (Pa.) at 4:00 p.m., this afternoon in a second elimination game after the Vulcans rallied and then held on to beat Indiana (Pa.) 11-10 on Friday morning.

Trailing by one in the top of the seventh with two outs and a runner on first, Marll sent an 0-1 pitch into the gap in right center, scoring sophomore Liz Good (Croydon, Pa./Truman). On the play, Marll rounded second and headed for third forcing a throw from the Huskies.

The throw from shortstop Kelly Zarski sailed past the third base bag and down the left field line, allowing Marll to score what proved to be the game-winning run.

In the bottom of the seventh, senior Kelley Tiesi (Baltimore, Md./Catholic School of Baltimore) came in for the save, retiring three of the four batters she faced, all by strikeout, for her second save of the season and the 11th of her career, moving her into fourth on the all-time Division II list.

Tiesi, who surpassed 300 strikeouts this season in Thursday’s loss to Lock Haven, now has 1,043 for her career, 37 behind Debbie Tidy of Sacred Heart for fifth-place on the all-time Division II list. Tiesi totaled 345 strikeouts as a sophomore in 2004.

Sophomore Danielle Shields (Laurel, Del./Sussex Tech) picked up her third-straight win, striking out six while surrendering just four hits and two runs. During that time, she has allowed only two runs and eight hits while striking out 19.

Bloomsburg (35-14) broke open a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth with two runs on a home run to left field by Alyson Taylor.

The Lady Raiders got a run back in the fifth when junior Katie Heatley (York, Pa./Dallastown) doubled to right center and then scored when Good singled through the left side.

Marll finished the game 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored while Good went 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run.

If Shippensburg survives its game with California (Pa.), the team will face the loser of the Kutztown versus Lock Haven game at 2:00 p.m., on Friday.
