Chantiles Earns Third PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week Honor

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg softball junior Heather Chantiles (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Player of the Week on Monday for the third time this season. She led Shippensburg offensively as the team posted a 5-3 record and secured the No. 2-seed in the Eastern Division for this week's PSAC Softball Championship.
Chantiles batted .633 as Shippensburg went 5-3 in securing the No. 2-seed in the PSAC championship this week at Lock Haven. She was 19-for-30 with nine runs and four RBI and now has 97 hits on the season, three shy of becoming the first player in Division II since 2000 to total 100 hits in a single-season.
Chantiles had at least one hit in seven of the team's eight games last week and went a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs and two RBI in a 12-2 victory at Mansfield on April 25 and in the doubleheader, went 8-for-9. Against Millersville on Saturday, Chantiles went 6-for-7 in the doubleheader, including 3-for-3 with a run in an 8-0 victory in game two.
On the season, Chantiles has started all 52 games in center field while posting a .508 batting average.
The No. 14-ranked Shippensburg softball team will travel to Lock Haven University on Thursday looking for its fourth consecutive PSAC championship when the team opens play in the 2006 PSAC Softball Championship. As the No. 2-seed in the Eastern Division, the Lady Raiders will open play on Thursday at Noon, against Indiana (Pa.), the No. 3-seed from the Western Division.
