Chantiles, Tiesi Sweep PSAC Weekly Awards For Second Time

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg softball junior Heather Chantiles (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Player of the Week on Monday while senior Kelley Tiesi (Baltimore, Md./Catholic School of Baltimore) was named Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week.
Earlier this season, Chantiles and Tiesi swept the Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards on March 21, the first week the awards were handed out by the conference. It is the second time this season Chantiles has earned Player of the Week honors and the third time in the five weeks of the award that Tiesi has been named Pitcher of the Week.
Chantiles batted .571 last week as Shippensburg went 4-0, extending its win streak to seven and moving into first-place in the PSAC Eastern Division. She started all four games in center field, going 8-for-14 with a double and three RBI. She also scored two runs, posted a .643 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .571 with two stolen bases.
Chantiles had a hit in each game and at least two in three. In game two of a doubleheader with East Stroudsburg, she was 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. In the doubleheader, she went 5-for-8 with two stolen bases.
Tiesi figured into three of the team's four wins last week, earning two wins and a save. She did not allow a run in 16.0 innings while surrendering just nine hits and totaling 33 strikeouts. Opponents batted a mere .153 against her as she totaled two shutouts and one combined shutout.
In her two starts against East Stroudsburg and Mansfield, Tiesi struck out 15 and 13, respectively and in her relief appearance in game two versus East Stroudsburg, she totaled five strikeouts in just two innings. For her career, she now has 955 strikeouts and 90 wins.
With four doubleheaders this week, Tiesi is on pace to become the seventh player in Division II history to total 1,000 career strikeouts.
After the Lady Raiders' doubleheader at Millersville on Monday, the team travels to Bloomsburg on Wednesday for a top-25 rematch from March 31 in which the two teams split a doubleheader.
