Lady Raiders Split Doubleheader at Mansfield; 25-Game Win Streak Snapped

MANSFIELD, Pa. - After winning 25-straight games, the Shippensburg University softball team split a doubleheader with Mansfield University on Friday afternoon, winning the first game 8-0, and dropping the second game, 4-1.

It is the Lady Raiders (34-2, 17-1 PSAC East) first lost in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division, and their first loss since March 5, a 3-0 loss against Northern Kentucky University.

Junior Kelley Tiesi (Baltimore, Md./Catholic School of Baltimore), pitched five innings, allowing one run. She struck out seven and goes to 18-1 on the year. Freshman Danielle Shields (Laurel, Del./Sussex Tech) pitched the final two innings and struck out four. Amy Martino (7-3) got the loss for Mansfield.

Senior Jaime Dacey (Langhorne, Pa./Archbishop Wood) gave the Lady Raiders a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a home run to left field.

Shippensburg scored three runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Two runs scored when senior Anna Corr (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) was hit by a pitch and Dacey walked, each with the bases loaded to send home senior Kristen Marll (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and sophomore Heather Chantiles (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin). A third run scored when senior Sarah Costa (Laurel, Md./Atholton) reached base on an error.

A pair of RBI doubles from senior Jessica Miller (Easton, Pa./Easton) and Marll sent two more runs across the plate in the third for a 6-0 lead.

The Lady Raiders added two insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Senior Amanda Collins (Pasadena, Md./Archbishop Spalding) sent Dacey home with a single up the middle in the seventh inning while Chantiles scored on a wild pitch in the eighth to leave the score 8-0.

Marll went 2-for-2 for Shippensburg while Dacey went 1-for-1 with a home run and two RBI.

Timely-hitting hurt Shippensburg in game two as they left 11 runners on the bases. Mansfield took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Shana Markwis reached base on an error and Allison Tagliaferri scored on the play.

A bases loaded double to left center by Tricia Bailey in the fourth inning scored three runs and gave the Mountaineers a 4-0 lead.

Shippensburg got on the board in the sixth inning to break up the shutout. Marll reached base with a walk. She moved into scoring position when Morris grounded out, scoring on a double by senior Steph Reavey to make the score 4-1.

Freshman Jill Kirby (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) got the loss for Shippensburg, giving up four runs on eight hits. Tagliaferri earned the win for Mansfield.

Reavey, freshman Liz Good (Croydon, Pa./Truman) and Anna Corr each had two hits in the second game.

Shippensburg takes on East Stroudsburg University tomorrow afternoon in the Lady Raiders' final home game. Shippensburg will honor its 10 seniors between games.
