KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Shippensburg University softball team extended its winning streak to a school-record 24 games and remained undefeated in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division with a sweep at Kutztown University on Wednesday afternoon, 4-2 and 5-4.

Senior Liz Corr (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) scored two runs in the second game to break the Shippensburg career record for runs scored. She now has 156 runs in her career, breaking the old record of 154 set by Heather Bankert from 1997-2000. Liz already holds the school record for career hits with 262.

The previous longest winning streak was 23 games, set by last year's team that went 48-6.

Trailing 2-0 in game one with two outs in the top of the seventh, Shippensburg (33-1, 16-0 PSAC East) senior Beth Rudai (Glen Mills, Pa./University High, Ill.) reached first base on a Kutztown error that began a rally. After senior Anna Corr (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) singled, senior Jaime Dacey (Langhorne, Pa./Archbishop Wood) tied the game with her 11th triple of the season.

Senior Sarah Costa (Laurel, Md./Atholton) gave the Lady Raiders the lead with a single, scoring Dacey. Senior Amanda Collins (Pasadena, Md./Archbishop Spalding) hit a double to send Costa across the plate for an insurance run and a 4-2 lead.

Junior Kelley Tiesi (Baltimore, Md./Catholic School of Baltimore) retired the Golden Bears in the bottom of the seventh for the victory. She struck out seven in the win, giving up two runs on four hits, raising her record to 17-1.

Kutztown (20-16, 7-7 PSAC East) scored both of their runs in the fifth inning. Sam Flowers scored on a Lady Raider throwing error while Adriane Willmer hit a RBI-single that scored Cheryl Griffith. The Golden Bears had three of their four hits in the inning.

Shippensburg out-hit Kutztown, 12-4, in the game, but left nine runners on base. Costa led the team at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored.

With the score tied at 3-3 after three innings in game two, Shippensburg took the lead for good with a two-run home run by Anna Corr in the top of the fourth, giving the Lady Raiders a 5-3 advantage.

The Golden Bears would cut the lead to one in the sixth inning when Malarie Caserta scored an unearned run following two Shippensburg errors.

Tiesi, who came on in relief of freshman Danielle Shields (Laurel, Del./Sussex Tech), shut down the final four Golden Bear batters for her first save of the season. Shields struck out six and gave up two earned runs in improving her record to 11-0.

The Lady Raiders took the first lead in the game, 3-0, in the second, off a RBI-single from senior Fawn Gaidos (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest). Gaidos and Liz Corr both scored on an error later in the inning.

Kutztown scored a run in the bottom of the second inning when Dani Spalik crossed the plate off two errors. Tarin Horonzy hit a two-run home run in the third to tie the game, 3-3.

Stacey Denlinger took the loss for the Golden Bears, allowing five runs off 10 hits.

Shippensburg next takes on Mansfield University on Friday, April 15 at Mansfield beginning at 2:30 p.m. The game was scheduled to be played in Shippensburg before inclement weather caused the first meeting between the two teams on March 30 to be played in Shippensburg. The Lady Raiders defeated the Mounties, 6-0 and 7-0.
