Tiesi Strikes Out 14 As Lady Raiders Post Eighth Shutout
KISSIMMEE, Fla. - For the second-straight game, junior Kelley
Tiesi (Baltimore, Md./Catholic School of Baltimore) struck out 14
batters as the Shippensburg University softball team posted its eighth shutout
of the season, defeating
Findlay University, 6-0, at the Rebel Spring Games.
The Lady Raiders (13-1) cruised to an 11-2 victory over the College of St.
Rose in their first game of the day. Senior Sarah Costa (Laurel,
Md./Atholton) totaled four RBI, going 3-for-4 with a home run.
Against St. Rose, tallied three runs in the first inning, four in the second
and one in the third to take an 8-0 lead after three innings, sparked by Costa's
home run. Senior Jaime Dacey (Langhorne, Pa./Archbishop Wood) totaled three
RBI, going 3-for-3 with a triple while senior Jessica Miller (Easton,
Pa./Easton) was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI.
Junior Caitlin MacPherson (Hemlock, N.Y./Monroe Community College) threw a
complete game seven-hitter striking out five while allowing two earned runs
for her second victory of the season.
Costa and Dacey led the offense versus Findlay in the second game as Costa
went 4-for-4 with a double and triple while Dacey was 2-for-4. Senior Fawn
Gaidos (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) had two RBI, going 2-for-2 and sophomore
Katie Heatley (York, Pa./Bucknell University) went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Tiesi improved her record to 6-1, throwing a complete game while allowing just
one hit for her third one-hitter this season. She also had 14 strikeouts on
Monday against Southern Indiana University. For the season, Tiesi has already
totaled over 50 strikeouts in only seven appearances, an average of over seven
per game.
The Lady Raiders return to action at the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday evening
against American International College and Dowling College. Game times are
at 4:10 p.m. and 6:00 p.m, respectively.
