Lady Raiders Split on First Day of Rebel Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Shippensburg University softball team split its first two games at the RebelSpring Games in Kissimmee, Florida, defeating the University of South Dakota, 4-2, in game one before falling to Northern Kentucky University 3-0 in the nightcap.

Against South Dakota, freshman Danielle Shields (Laurel, Del./Sussex Tech) pitched a complete game, striking out 14 to go to 4-0 on the season.

Senior Jaime Dacey (Langhorne, Pa./Archbishop Wood) led Shippensburg (9-1) at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a RBI. Senior Amanda Collins (Pasadena, Md./Archbishop Spalding) went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a double. Also with an extra base hit was senior Anna Corr (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) who had a triple.

Game two was a battle of nationally ranked teams and All-American pitchers, as junior Kelley Tiesi (Baltimore, Md./Catholic School of Baltimore) faced off with Northern Kentucky’s Krystal Lewallen. The two finished last year with the top two earned run averages in Division II.

Shippensburg is ranked at No. 3 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Preseason Top 25 Poll, while the Norse is No. 5.

The Lady Raiders return to action on Monday, March 7 to take on Bellarmine University and Southern Indiana University.
