Shippensburg Sweeps Doubleheader With Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. - The Shippensburg University softball team swept a doubleheader with Belmont Abbey College on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game, 11-1, and the second, 10-0.

Game one was highlighted by a two-run homer by senior Sarah Costa (Laurel, Md./Atholton) who had three RBI in the game. Others who had extra base hits included sophomore Ali Morris (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks East) with a double and senior Jaime Dacey (Langhorne, Pa./Archbishop Wood) who hit her fifth triple of the season to move into second on the Shippensburg career triples list with 17.

Freshman Danielle Shields (Laurel, Del./Sussex Tech) earned her second win this season, pitching four innings and giving up one unearned run on two hits. Junior Caitlin MacPherson (Hemlock, N.Y./Monroe Community College) pitched the final inning.

In game two, junior Kelley Tiesi (Baltimore Md./Catholic School of Baltimore) pitched a one-hit shutout for her third win of the season.

Senior Liz Corr (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) went 3-for-4, senior Amanda Collins (Pasadena, Md./Archbishop Spalding) was 3-for-3 and Dacey went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

The Lady Raiders (6-0) will be back in action on Sunday when they take on Catawba College in a doubleheader.
