Red Raiders Finish Fourth at PSAC Championships, Three Runners Finish In Top 25

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The
Shippensburg men’s cross country team earned a fourth-place finish
at the PSAC Championships held Saturday morning on the 8K North Course
at Kutztown University. It is the second consecutive season that the Red
Raiders have finished in fourth place.
Junior Stephen Thompson (Northumberland/Shikellamy) was the top individual
finisher for Shippensburg, finishing in 22nd place with a time of 27:27.
It is the first time this season that Thompson has led the way for the Red
Raiders in a meet, as he improved upon his 2006 PSAC Championship time by
six seconds.
Running in the same group with Thompson was freshman Bryan Beegle
(Gettysburg/Gettysburg) and sophomore Jeremy Brady (Heidelberg
AFB/Heidelberg). Beegle finished in
24th place with a time of 27:34, while Brady was one place behind, completing
the course in 27:37.
Rounding out the top five for Shippensburg were junior Phil Diven
(Sykesville, Md./South Carroll) and freshman Jake Sitler
(Wrightsville/York Catholic).
Diven earned 32nd place by finishing in 27:52, while Sitler continued his
strong freshman season with a 36th-place finish and completed the course
in 27:56.
Edinboro won the event by totaling 33 points, eight ahead of second-place
Slippery Rock. Matt Bluman, a senior for The Rock, was the individual champion,
posting a time of 26:18.
Shippensburg will compete in the NCAA East Regionals, to be held next Saturday
at Lock Haven University. The men’s competition will take place at
11 a.m.
