ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Three Red Raider runners placed in the top five at the Elizabethtown Invitational on Saturday afternoon to help guide the Shippensburg men’s cross country team to its third consecutive first-place finish.

The Red Raiders finished with a team total of 31 points, 28 points ahead of second-place Salisbury, while fellow PSAC representative Bloomsburg took fifth place with 151 points.

Freshman Bryan Beegle (Gettysburg/Gettysburg) once again earned the team’s top finish, grabbing third place with a time of 19:28. It is the third consecutive week that Beegle has finished in the top three, and the freshman runner has placed in the top ten in all six of the team’s meets this season.

Junior Stephen Thompson (Northumberland/Shikellamy) was once again right with Beegle, finishing just hundredths of a second behind him in third place. For Thompson, it is the third consecutive week he has finished in the top five.

Freshman Phil Diven (Sykesville, Md./South Carroll) kept up the pace and finished in fifth place, just one second behind Beegle and Thompson. It is Diven’s best finish of the year, as he continued the pace he set last week with a 14th-place finish at the Gettysburg Invitational.

Rounding out the top five for Shippensburg at the 6K event was freshman Jake Sitler (Wrightsville/York Catholic), who finished in 10th place with a time of 19:51, along with an 11th-place finish from fellow freshman Sean Stetler (Warrington/Central Bucks South). The average time through the course for the Red Raiders was 19:37.60.

Shippensburg will look to parlay its momentum into a strong performance at the 2007 PSAC Championships, which is set for Saturday at Kutztown. The event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
