Red Raiders Win Second Consecutive Meet, Take First at Gettysburg Invitational

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - For the second consecutive
weekend, the Shippensburg men’s cross country team took home first
place in its meet, compiling 52 points en route to top marks at the Gettysburg
Invitational on an 8K course. The Red Raiders finished 24 points ahead
of Ohio Wesleyan, who finished in second place.
Freshman Bryan Beegle (Gettysburg/Gettysburg) and junior Stephen
Thompson (Northumberland/Shikellamy) earned second and third place respectively by
both finishing the course in 26:41, with Beegle completing his run just .27
seconds faster than Thompson.
Beegle has finished in the top ten in all five of the team’s events
this season and has been the first Red Raider to cross the finish line in
each match. It is also the second consecutive week and third overall this
season that Thompson has finished in the top five.
Sophomore Jeremy Brady (Heidelberg AFB/Heidelberg American) posted another
strong performance his highest place this season. Brady earned sixth place
with a time of 26:47.22.
Rounding out the top five for Shippensburg were freshman Phil Diven
(Sykesville, Md./South Carroll), whose time of 27:06.72 gave him a 14th-place finish,
and freshman Jake Sitler (Wrightsville/York Catholic), who finished in 27th
place with a time of 27:31.11.
Freshman Sean Stetler (Warrington/Central Bucks South) and sophomore Ryan
Boyer (Shamokin/Southern Columbia) also finished in the top 40 for the Red
Raiders.
Shippensburg returns to action next Saturday at the Elizabethtown Invitational,
which begins at 10 AM.
