Red Raider Cross Country Takes Team Title at Dickinson Invitational

CARLISLE, Pa. - A total of 15 runners
competed for the Shippensburg University men's cross country team on Saturday,
three of which finished in the top 20 to lead the Red Raiders to the team
title in the 4K race at the Dickinson Long Course/Short Course Invitational.
Shippensburg posted a team total of 20 points, tying them with Johns Hopkins
who finished second.
Freshman Bryan Beegle (Gettysburg/Gettysburg) totaled his fourth top-10 finish
as he came in third with a time of 12:27.14. It also marked the fourth time
this season that Beegle was the first Red Raider to cross the finish line.
Less than six seconds behind Beegle, junior Stephen Thompson (Northumberland/Shikellamy) finished fifth in 12:32.64, his first top five finish since he came in third
at the Alumni Meet on September 1.
Sophomore Jeremy Brady (Heidelberg AFB/Heidelberg American), freshman Phil
Diven (Sykesville, Md./South Carroll) and freshman Sean
Stetler (Warrington/Central Bucks South) rounded out the top five for the Red Raiders with Brady and
Diven turning in sub-13 performances. Diven's 14th place finish and Stetler's
24th place showing were their top performances of the season.
Of the 15 runners competing for Shippensburg, three were competing in their
first races of the season, two of which who were competing for the first
time in their career. Freshmen Matt Gelety (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and
Channon Riggs (Chambersburg/Chambersburg) each made their collegiate debuts
with Gelety finishing sixth among the Red Raider competitors and 32nd overall
in a time of 13:07.86.
Meanwhile, sopohomore Rob Kuliczkowski (Philadelphia/Father Judge) competed
in his first race since Sept. 29, 2006 when he participated in the Paul Short
Invitational at Lehigh.
Shippensburg returns to action next Saturday at the Gettysburg Invitational.
Competition begins at 10 AM.
