Men's Cross Country Finishes 10th at Brooks Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Led by freshman Bryan Beegle (Gettysburg/Gettysburg) who
posted a season-best time of 26:15, the Shippensburg University men's cross
country team placed 10th out of 39 teams competing at the 34th Brooks Paul
Short Run on Friday afternoon on the Goodman Campus at Lehigh University.
The Red Raiders' finish came in the college white championship 8K race that
featured 39 teams from NCAA Division II and III that are not ranked nationally.
Shippensburg was one of four schools from the PSAC competing as it placed
behind Bloomsburg who was second, Kutztown in sixth and Millersville in seventh
while finishing ahead of West Chester who came in 15th.
Dickinson won the event with a meet total of 119 points while Lock Haven,
currently ranked No. 19 in Division II, competed in the brown championship
8K race with ranked teams in Division I, II and III.
Beegle placed eighth overall and his time was 14 seconds faster than his
seventh place finish at the NYU Invitational on September 15.
Junior Stephen Thompson (Northumberland/Shikellamy) came in 41st with a time
of 27:09 while freshman Jake Sitler (Wrightsville/York Catholic) and junior
Phil Diven (Sykesville, Md./South Carroll) came in 63rd and 74th, respectively.
Rounding out the field for the Red Raiders were sophomores Zach Epple
(Altoona/Altoona) and Ryan Boyer (Shamokin/Southern Columbia) who were separated by just 11
seconds with Epple finishing 141st in 28:32 and Boyer placing 150th in 28:43.
A total of 266 individuals competed in Friday's race and Shippensburg
totaled 327 points. The Red Raiders had an average time of 27:26
and a spread of
2:17.
Shippensburg returns to competition next Saturday, October 6 when it travels
to nearby Carlisle High School to compete in the Dickinson Invitational.
