Red Raiders Take First In Husky Invitational Behind Five Top-10 Finishes

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg men’s cross country team continued its strong start to the 2006 season on Saturday by taking first place in the Husky Invitational held at Bloomsburg University. The Red Raiders finished with a total of 32 points and had five runners finish in the top 10.
Pacing Shippensburg was sophomore Stephen Thompson (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy), who finished in third place with a time of 27:13. Bloomsburg's Justin Shepherd took first place with a time of 26:47, while Frostburg State's Curt Ruble took second place.
Also finishing in the Top 10 was sophomore Dillon Gracey (Mercersburg/James Buchanan) in fifth (27:35), senior Greg Weiss (Newfoundland, N.J./West Milford) in eighth (27:53), sophomore Stephen Lobiano (Dover, Pa./Northeastern) in ninth (27:55) and junior Nick Brousse (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) in 10th (27:56).
Other strong finishers for Shippensburg include sophomore Andrew Amey (Carlisle/Big Spring) in 15th (28:07), freshman Josh Neyhart (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) in 28th (29:07), sophomore Jordan Shick (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) in 32nd (29:15) and freshman Zack Epple (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) in 34th (29:20).
Bloomsburg finished with 44 points in second place, while Millersville came in third place with 87 points.
Shippensburg will take next weekend off before travelling to Bethlehem, for the Paul Short Inviational on Sept. 30. The men will run at 2 p.m.
