Men's Cross Country Ranked at No. 20 in Preseason USTFCCCA Poll

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg men's cross country team was ranked at No. 20 in the preseason U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Cross Country ranking released on Tuesday.

Adams State, who finished second in last year's NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, were ranked at No. 1 ahead of Western State, Chico State, Abilene Christian and Grand Valley State who rounded out the top-five.

The Red Raiders were also ranked third in the East Region poll and were one of four teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to be ranked in the top-25. Joining Shippensburg was Lock Haven (9th), Edinboro (14th) and Slippery Rock (22nd).

A panel of Division II coaches vote in the USTFCCCA polls which will be released weekly on Tuesdays throughout the collegiate cross country season at www.ustfccca.com.

Shippensburg opened its 2006 season on Saturday by finishing second in the team's annual alumni meet. Sophomore Dillon Gracey (Mercersburg/James Buchanan) placed fourth with a time of 20:00 and sophomore Stephen Thompson (Northnumberland/Shikellamy) finished seventh in 20:20.

Junior Allen Hanslovan (Morrisdale/West Branch) who participated in last year's national championships, came in 10th.

The Red Raiders are idle this week and travel to Bloomsburg on September 16 for the Husky Invitational.
