Alumni Takes Top Three Places at Alumni Meet to Open 2006 Cross Country Season

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg men’s cross country team opened its 2006 season on Saturday with the annual Alumni Meet which also featured Gettysburg and Frostburg State, finishing second behind the alumni team led by head coach Steve Spence.

Spence took first in the event with a time of 19:53, followed by May 2006 graduates John Somers and Dan Helfrick who placed second and third, respectively.

Sophomore Dillon Gracey (Mercersburg/James Buchanan) placed fourth with a time of 20:00 even to lead Shippensburg’s current squad and sophomore Stephen Thompson (Northnumberland/Shikellamy) finished seventh in 20:20.

Rounding out spots nine through 11 were freshman Josh Neyhart (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown), senior Allen Hanslovan (Morrisdale/West Branch) and senior Stephen LoBianco (Dover/Northeastern), clocking in between 20:23 and 20:33.

Also finishing for the Red Raiders were senior Greg Weiss (Newfoundland, N.J./West Milford) in 12th (20:44), freshman Jeremy Brady (Heidelberg American School [Germany]), in 18th (21:00) and sophomore Andrew Amey (Carlisle/Big Spring) in 20th (21:04).

The Red Raiders scored 41 points overall while the alumni totaled 26. Gettysburg and Frostburg State rounded out third and fourth with respective point totals of 86 and 88.

Shippensburg travels to Bloomsburg on September 16 for the Husky Invitational.
