Escamilla, Piccolo Winners at Fred Hardy Invitational

RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Adam Escamilla (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick) and senior
Mark Piccolo (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) took home first-place finishes for
the Shippensburg University men’s track and field on Saturday at the Fred
Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond.

Escamilla finished first in the discus throw with a mark of 43.77 meters,
just ahead of freshman Mark Anderson (Nanty Glo, Pa./Central Cambia) who had
a throw of 43.15 meters. Escamilla and Anderson also placed second and
third, respectively, in the shot put.

Meanwhile, Piccolo took home first-place honors in the 400-meter hurdles
with a time of 53.91 seconds, a full second ahead of second-place.

For the women’s team, senior Kelly Frick (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge)
finished second in the javelin throw with a mark of 43.36 meters. Angela
Hoover of the University of Pittsburgh won the event with a throw of 48.07
meters.

Junior John Somers (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) came in second in the
men’s 1,500-meter run, finishing with a time of 3:53.25 while sophomore
Bernie Richards (York Haven, Pa./Northeastern York) placed third in both the
110-meter hurdles (15.94 seconds) and the 400-meter hurdles (55.53 seconds).
He also was seventh in the 400-meter dash.

NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field All-American sophomore Richard
Hansloven (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch)
came in third in the 10,000-meter
run with a time of 32:46.85, ahead of sophomore Derek Lautenslager
(Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg)
in fourth.

Sophomore Monica Speca (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) and sophomore Stacey
Welch (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton)
each had third-place finishes for the
women in the high jump and pole vault, respectively. Speca had a mark of
1.55 meters while Wilcher cleared the bar at 3.35 meters.

Senior Tunisia Lacy (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) was fourth in the
100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.88 seconds and fifth in the long jump
with a mark of 5.28 meters.

The Shippensburg men’s and women’s track and field teams will be back in
action next weekend at the University of Maryland Invitational in College
Park, Md.
