Outdoor Track Concludes Competition at Ram Invitational

RICHMOND, Va. - The Shippensburg University men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor season at the Ram Invitational hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University on Saturday. Although no team scores were kept, both teams had some notable performances.
 
On the men's side, the Red Raiders had 23 top-10 finishes over the course of the two-day event, highlighted by four first-place finishers.
 
Junior Kenrick Marsh (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) came in first in the 800-meter run invitational with a time of 1:56.61 while junior John Somers (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) finished first in the 800-meter run at 1:55.91. Senior Marc Piccolo (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.91 seconds.
 
Sophomore Nathan Reider (York, Pa./Dallastown) and senior John Pacovsky (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) finished first and second, respectively, in the men's javelin throw. Reider had a throw of 191-feet, 6-inches while Pacovsky's throw went 184-feet.
 
Junior Daniel Helfrick (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanon) was second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 32:34.69, ahead of sophomore Darrin Wingard (Narvon, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and senior Matt Werner (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton) who finished in fourth and fifth-place, respectively.
 
Senior Adam Escamilla (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick) placed third in the shot put with a mark of 48-feet, 1 1/4-inches. He was also ninth in the discus throw at 135-feet, 1-inch. Junior Jake D'Arcangelo (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) was third in the high jump with a leap of 6-feet, 2 3/4-inches.
 
For the women, Shippensburg totaled 14 top-10 finishes, paced by the team's performance in the javelin throw. Senior Kelly Frick (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) came in second with a throw of 149-feet, 4-inches, ahead of senior Alyssa Kilgore (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) and Nicole Angelisanti (Temple, Pa./Reading Central Catholic) who were in fifth and ninth-place, respectively.
 
Junior Christine Welker (Coraopolis, Pa./Upper Moreland) finished fourth in the women's 10,000-meter run at 39:51.92 and junior Lindsey Incorvati (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Township) was fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.42.
 
Sophomore Stacey Wilcher (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) was seventh in the pole vault while freshman Casey Drummond (Marple Glenn, Pa./Upper Dublin) and sophomore Monica Speca (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) each tied for ninth in the high jump.
 
The 2005 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Rookie of the Year in women's basketball, freshman Megan Fogle (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York), made her debut with the team this weekend, finishing ninth in the 200-meter dash. She was also a member of the Lady Raiders' 4x400-meter relay team that placed seventh.
