Men Win PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championship

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University men's indoor track and field team won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday afternoon, hosted by East Stroudsburg University. The Red Raiders had a team total of 125 points, 24 ahead of second-place Lock Haven University.
The Shippensburg women's team finished in fifth-place with a total of 56 points. Kutztown University won the women's Indoor Track and Field Championship with a total of 105 points while Lock Haven's women's team also finished second.
On the men's side, the Red Raiders won three events, highlighted by two wins by sophomore Richard Hansloven (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch) in the mile run and 3,000-meter run. For his performance, Hansloven was named Outstanding Track Athlete.
Shippensburg's team of sophomore Greg Weiss (Newfoundland, N.J./West Milford), freshman Matt Krum (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn), sophomore Rick Bennett (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and junior Kenrick Marsh (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) finished first in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 7:51.24.
The Red Raiders also had five second-place finishes, including two by senior Alton Richards (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) in the 55-meter dash and 200-meter dash with times of 6.49 and 22.43, respectively. Richards' time in the 200-meter dash was good enough to provisionally qualify him for the NCAA championship.
Junior John Somers (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) crossed the line in second in the mile run, 0.74 seconds behind Hansloven. In addition to helping Shippensburg place first in the 4x800 meter relay, Marsh was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that finished second while he earned second-place in the 800-meter run.
For the women, senior Tunisia Lacy (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) was named Outstanding Track Athlete after she took home wins in the 55-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump. She provisionally qualified for the NCAA championship in all three events and set a new meet and Koehler Fieldhouse record in the long jump with a mark of 19-feet, 2-inches.
Junior Flo Yerokum (Perkiomenville, Pa./Spring-Ford) was also a winner for the Lady Raiders after posting a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 55-meter dash at 7.21 seconds.
