Ship Men and Women Finish First at PSAC East Challenge

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Shippensburg University men's and women's indoor track teams both finished first at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Challenge held at Kutztown on Saturday afternoon. The women had a score of 169 while the men totaled 192.50 points.
Senior Tunicia Lacy (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) was the big winner for the women, finishing first in three events. She won the 55-meter hurdles (8.42 seconds), the long jump (17-feet, 5-inches) and the triple jump (37-feet, 6 3/4-inches). Lacy was also a placewinner in the 55-meter dash.
Other winners for Shippensburg included junior Flo Yerokum (Perkiomenville, Pa./Spring-Ford), who tied her best performance of the year in the 55-meter dash, running a school-record time of 7.25 seconds. Sophomore Monica Speca (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) won the high jump, clearing 5-feet, 3-inches.
The women' distance medley relay team also placed first with a time of 13:09.21.
The men had a number of placewinners including senior Adam Escamilla (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick) who won the shot put, throwing a distance of 51-feet, 8-inches. He also finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 44-feet, 4.5-inches.
Senior Alton Richards (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) was a winner in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 22.38 seconds while junior John Somers (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) came in first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.13.
Both relay teams for the men emerged as winners, as the 1,600-meter relay team came in first with a time of 3:21.98 and the distance medley relay team posted a time of 10:38.30.
