Fuhrman Leads Shippensburg on Day One of Bison Open

LEWISBURG , Pa. - Senior Jeremy Fuhrman (Hanover, Pa./South Western) led the Shippensburg University men's indoor track and field team in competition on Friday night at the Bison Open hosted by Bucknell University.  Fuhrman was one of only a handful of Red Raider athletes in competition as the Open continues all day Saturday afternoon.
 
Fuhrman tied for second in the 60-meter dash event of the Heptathlon with a time of 7.30 seconds, tying him with Keith Valdhuis of Lock Haven University.  Ron Jett of Indiana University (Pa.) came in first with a mark of 7.17. Fuhrman also placed sixth in the high jump portion of the Heptathlon with a mark of 1.79 meters, also tying him with Valdhuis.
 
In the long jump, Fuhrman placed fourth with a jump of 6.63 meters while he placed 14th in the shot put with a throw of 8.61 meters. Sophomore Bernie Richards (York Haven, Pa./Northeastern York) and freshman Brandon Soper (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanaham) also competed in the first four events of the Heptathlon for Shippensburg on Friday. Richards placed 14th in the long jump and 16th in the shot put while Soper placed 17th and 19th, respectively.
 
In the final of the distance medley relay, the Shippensburg "A" team placed third with a time of 10:20.54 while the "B" team placed 10th, posting a mark of 11:12.55.
 
Sophomore Nate Rider (York, Pa./Dallastown) and senior Adam Escamilla (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick) each placed in the top-10 of the weight throw as Rider came in fourth with a throw of 14.12 meters and Escamilla finished seventh with a mark of 13.72 meters. Junior Cole Taylor (Liverpool, Pa./Greenwood) came in 15th with a throw of 13.19 meters.
 
In the first heat of the 5,000 meters, sophomore Steve Lobianco (Dover, Pa./Northeastern York) placed 11th with a time of 15:56.56 while sophomore Darrin Wingard (Navron, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) came in 14th, just ahead of junior Dan Helfrick (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanon). Wingard ran a time of 15:59.32 and Helfrick posted a mark of 15:59.58.
 
Sophomore Derek Lautenslager (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) also competed in the 5,000 meters, placing 19th with a time of 16:21.49.
