Maurice Barbour Named PSAC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

Dec. 11, 2007

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - For the first time in his career, Shippensburg University men's track and field senior Maurice Barbour (Chambersburg/Chambersburg) was named the PSAC Indoor Men’s Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday by the conference. The selections were based on the first two weeks of competition, beginning Saturday, December 1.

This past weekend, Barbour posted an NCAA provisional effort in the triple jump at the Ursinus Classic with a first-place distance of 47' 11 1/4", helping the Red Raiders to take home top team honors at the event from a field of 15 schools.

The previous week, at the Bison Opener, Barbour finished second in the triple jump with an effort of 46' 9".

Barbour became the fourth Shippensburg athlete to be recognized by the conference since the start of the 2005-06 season. He is the first to earn an indoor award since current volunteer coach Nate Reider ’07 was recognized by the PSAC on February 13, 2007.

Shippensburg will return to action on Friday, January 11 at the PSAC East Challenge from Kutztown. Competition will begin at 10:30 a.m.
