Men's Track Qualifies in Four Events For NCAA Outdoor Championships

Hanslovan (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch), the Shippensburg men's track and field
team had three individuals qualify in four different events for this week's
NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held May 25-27
at Fran Welch Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University in Emporia,
Kansas.
A total of 620 participants will compete in the championships after qualifying
by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.
Hanslovan will compete in two events this week after being seeded fifth in
the 1,500-meter run and 14th in the 5,000-meter run. He is one of three student-athletes
from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) taking part in the 1,500
after Chris Cummings of Mansfield was seeded fouth and senior teammate John
Somers (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) qualified eighth.
Cummings, Hanslovan and Somers all provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor
Championships at the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 14 after finishing first,
second and 12th, respectively. Cummings and Hanslovan were separated by a mere
0.32 seconds after Cummings finished in 3:47.27 and Hanslovan crossed the line
in 3:47.59. Meanwhile, Somers clocked in at 3:51.85.
Hanslovan is seeded 14th in the 5,000-meter run after posting a conference-best
time of 14:25.70 at the Penn Relays on April 27. Of the 20 qualifiers in the
event, Hanslovan is the lone runner from both the PSAC and East Region.
The third NCAA championship qualifier for Shippensburg is junior Nate
Reider (York, Pa./Dallastown) who is seeded seventh in the javelin throw with a mark
of 211-feet, 7 1/4-inches. Reider is one of five student-athletes from the
PSAC to be competing in the event, joining Rob Conrad and Mike Rairigh of Indiana
(Pa.), Dan Gale of East Stroudsburg and Jeremy Confer of Mansfield.
