Hanslovan Leads Red Raiders With Second-Place Finish at Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg University junior Richard Hanslovan (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch) finished in second-place in the 1,500-meter run to highlight another strong performance by the men's track and field team, which had five athletes place in the top-15 at the Bison Outdoor Classic held at Bucknell University on Friday.

Hanslovan, who took first in the 5,000-meter run at the PSAC West Challenge last week, turned in a time of 3:47.59 to finish just behind Mansfield's Chris Cummings, who finished with a time of 3:47.27.

Hanslovan's teammate, senior John Somers (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) earned a 12th-place finish after posting a time of 3:51.85. Also competing for Shippensburg were freshman Stephen Thompson (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) and junior Greg Weiss (Newfoundland, N.J./West Milford) who placed 37th and 43rd, respectively.

Also earning a top-10 finish was junior Stephen Lobianco (Dover, Pa./Northeastern York) who turned in a time of 9:41.20 to finish 10th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

In the 5,000-meter run, senior Dan Helfrick (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan) placed 30th in a time of 14:59.47.

Shippensburg also placed two athletes in the top-15 in the javelin. Junior Nathan Reider (York, Pa./Dallastown) took 12th-place with a heave of 49.70 meters. Sophomore Jarrod Shull (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) finished one spot behind in 13th with a toss of 49.56 seconds.

The men's and women's track and field teams return to action on Friday, April 21 at the IUP Open in hosted by Indiana University (Pa.).
